Foundry Fellowship, Fall 2022

The Fellowship Teams

"What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals." - Henry David Thoreau

That’s the thought process we want our Foundry Fellow's to engage in! Once a creator, always a creator! We aspire them to become successful with their innovations, and to be an alchemist for their journey! Our Fellows did somewhat astounding things during their Fall 2022 Fellowship cohort. We’ve included a few highlights from each team below, and we invite you to read through their accomplishments.

Unsmudgable created a permanent anti-smudge lens coating for prescriptive and safety eyewear free of PFAS. They spent the semester working hand in hand with Olin and Wellesley faculty to create their prototypes, and while they are still working on the details, they successfully created several working prototypes this semester and we look forward to seeing their finished product this Spring!

Military + Diorama & Paperplay were creators of unique and innovative tabletop gaming hardware! They created a terrain table for a war game and also created paper light weight and a portable gaming board. Most astounding is the fact that they both had their respective rules for the game, in addition to 3D Printing, and painting, most of the miniatures needed to play their game.

Pistis is solving communal shower’s hygiene problems with water repellent shower sandals! Pistis created three different prototypes, and have selected a direction to continue their project in.

Broush wants to bring customers a toilet brush that is refillable, sustainable and dissolvable. They want it to be convenient, user-friendly and good for the environment. This will make your toilet brush end up in the drain and not in any landfill for hundreds of years. Broush was unable to finalize their prototype this semester due to many challenges, but they have started work on several new prototypes.

Arkyve created three articles of clothing that challenged fashion norms, made something you usually wouldn't find in stores, and are exploring how much they can challenge the normal by deeds & skills. Arkyve is looking forward to both launching a line of clothes, and showcasing their work in our Spring 2023 BOW Fashion Show.

Additionally, this Fall we had several non-standard groups join our Fellowship teams, including an internationally located team and a team focused primarily on app creation. This expanded the Fellowship’s normal requirements and had some successes to highlight. We’re looking forward to having additional digital and international team collaborations in the future!

Lock-It-Pocket is solving the pressing issue of pickpocketing in Barcelona. During their semester abroad they learned about the problem and, enlightened by Babson’s Entrepreneurial Thought & Action, they were selected to be part of the Fellowship. Regardless of all the geographical & logistical challenges, the foundry team decided to support them in their mission, and produced two separate prototypes, though the logistical hurdles limited them in the end. Lock-It-Pocket intends on completing their prototyping this coming Spring semester. We look forward to seeing what they create!

Babcab is solving Babson’s community transportation problem by creating a mobile application to connect local drivers with riders who are part of the Babson, Olin, and Wellesley communities. This is our first Fellowship specifically focused on digital creation. We hope to support the BOW community going forward with all their digital creation needs.

We are proud of our Fellowship team's accomplishments this past semester! May each of you create the future you talked about having this semester! We invite each of you to join a world of infinite possibilities here with the Weissman Foundry. Today is the youngest you are going to be, and we hope that you’ll take the opportunity while you’re at Babson, Olin, or Wellesley Colleges to join us and create!

Our Fellowship applications are currently open for the Spring 2023 cohort! We look forward to seeing what you and your team create!
