2022-09-29_Ideasinmotion_undergrad_mmanne-1.jpg

We have a straightforward process for you to follow if you want to use the Weissman Foundry. This online orientation process will take about 15 minutes, and should give you a better understanding of the resources available to you while you are in the building. Through this you’ll learn how to signup for trainings or events, and you’ll have a better understanding of how we help encourage interactions between the BOW schools.

 Step 2: Read These Guidelines

General Guidelines:

  • On Duty Scouts are happy to assist you during your visit to the Foundry. You can identify them by their red aprons or by finding the Scouts listed on the On-Duty Scout Wall (in the Collaborative Studio).

  • Closed-toed shoes are required in the Foundry, as it is a working space. Please ensure you wear, or bring, proper footwear while you are in the building.

  • While we invite you to use our Social Kitchen to create the next awesome dish, please do not make massive quantities (please no catering out of our kitchen), sell the food you make (no cookie shipping side-gigs), or test cook a new recipe (we’re not America’s Test Kitchen.) Thanks!

  • You may reserve most spaces in the Foundry here.

  • While we encourage you to use our equipment, tools, and software, please refrain from replacing any consumable goods in our equipment, including our 3D printers, regular or large-format printers, or items you have not been trained on during your official training.

Safety and Security Guidelines:

  • We encourage each user to assess their safety with regard to COVID or other infectious diseases themselves, as we currently do not require masking or other COVID protocols. We regularly reassess these protocols and update our protocols as the CDC changes their recommendations.

  • BOW students, faculty or staff must adhere to proper equipment use and safety rules as covered in orientations and training sessions. These rules are posted above the doors to those Studios.

  • First Aid Kits are located in the Kitchen, the Woodshop, and the Collaborative Studio.

  • Our AED is located in the hallway, near the Print Studio.

  • BOW students, faculty or staff must have a passed the equipment test to use equipment.

  • BOW students, faculty or staff must retake tests to renew equipment access each new school year.

  • BOW students, faculty or staff must arrive within 15 min of their training start time to keep their equipment training reservation.

  • Authorized BOW students, faculty or staff cannot make reservations on behalf of other BOW students, faculty or staff or otherwise make resources available to untrained and unauthorized BOW students, faculty or staff.

  • No food, drink or wearing of audio earphones allowed at any equipment workstations.

  • Unless approved by The Foundry manager, BOW students, faculty or staff are responsible for clearing out their projects and/or materials by the end of the term or contents will be removed.

These Actions Will Result In Loss Of Privileges:

  • Language or behavior that makes anyone feel unwelcome or undermines our values of diversity and inclusion

  • Improper or unauthorized use of Weissman Foundry equipment or resources

  • Unsupervised use of Weissman Foundry equipment or resources

  • Disregard of Weissman Foundry safety rules and general policies
